Scottish Government asked to rule on Straiton film studio

Developers behind a new film and television studio development on the outskirts of Edinburgh have requested that the Scottish Government call-in their application for consideration claiming the council is taking too long to make a decision.

The team behind the £150 million Straiton Film Studio scheme earmarked for 86 acres of land in Midlothian have launched an appeal on the grounds of non-determination by Midlothian Council.

It is understood the ambitious privately-funded project – which would include eight sound stages up to 70ft tall – is one of three separate schemes being explored in Scotland at present.

If completed, it would be the UK’s third biggest film studio.

A spokesman for PSL Land Ltd confirmed they have written and requested that the application be called in by Scottish Ministers.

He added: “The planning application was submitted on May 2, and the statutory 16 week period during which the council are required to determine the application passed on September 5.”

The spokesman said PSL remained “committed to working with Midlothian Council.”
