The comedy musical, which is based in the Greek islands, uses the music of ABBA to tell the story of one daughter and bride-to-be’s hunt for her real father in the run up to her wedding day.

To date, it has been seen by more than 60 million people in 49 different productions - with the London production viewed by more than 10 per cent of the entire UK population.

A movie based on the musical, starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth, was released in 2008 and went on to become the highest selling DVD of all time in the UK.

Creator and producer Judy Craymer said: “It’s fantastic that we have the chance to bring Mamma Mia! back to Edinburgh with the first UK tour.

“It will be 10 years since the show last visited this wonderful city and we can’t wait to come back for the 2016 festive season.

“We look forward to welcoming new audiences as well as those that are rejoining us for the party.

“With its uplifting, sunny story set on a Greek Island and the much-loved music of ABBA, it’s the perfect winter warmer and festive fun for all the family.”
