Athletics: East weather the storm to secure double in Wishaw

The East scored comfortable wins in both senior and junior athletics matches at a weather-spoilt Scottish Inter-Regional Championships at Wishaw.

Helped by Scottish sprint champions Ryan Oswald and Stacey Downie, East seniors crushed their regional rivals, amassing 451 points with West Coast next on 291, Highland on 246, West City 227, Central 213 and Tayside 139. Oswald won the 200 metres in 22.25 seconds in unhelpful gusting conditions while Downie (Edinburgh AC) piled up the points by winning the women’s 100m in 12.45sec, the 400m in 58.17sec and helping the sprint relay team win in 48.70sec.

Pitreavie’s Oswald had been busy in the British League at Newham on Saturday placing second in the B 100m in 10.82 and second in the B 200m in 21.70.
