Athletics: Freya Murray leading East of Scotland team after honeymoon return

NEWLY-MARRIED Freya Murray, who runs in the BUPA Great Edinburgh 10k run in Holyrood Park tomorrow, leading the East of Scotland team in the Scottish Inter-District Championships, will have plenty to look forward to when she returns from her delayed California honeymoon later this month.

She is targeting trips to Budapest in Hungary in December for the European Cross Country championships and Moscow in Russia next August for the World Athletics Championships.

“I’m really looking forward to running on home turf tomorrow before heading for San Francisco on Monday morning,” said the 29-year-old
Edinburgh AC member.

“I’m planning to do some cross country when Michael and I get back and hopefully qualify for the European Championships in Budapest.”

“Next April I’m planning to do the London Marathon again and qualify for the World Championships in Moscow.”

Only then will Murray allow her thoughts to go forward to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Olympics in Rio in 2016, but with next year’s London Marathon coming within the qualifying period for marathon selection for Glasgow, she can do herself a favour by achieving the qualifying standard of 2:40.0.

Murray’s best is 2:28.10 achieved in this year’s Virgin London Marathon.
