Basketball: Kats eye Paisley victory

Kats will be without Lauren Walker, their leading scorer in their win over Tayside last Saturday, who is yet another to be hit by a flu-type virus.

However, their two Irish players, Louise Gray and Shauna O’Connor, return, although the latter is yet to train with them this year.

Polonia Phoenix, who are joint top of the Scottish Women’s League with Kats, face Falkirk Fury at Holyrood High tomorrow (2.30pm).

Despite their 59-51 win over champions Glasgow Rocks at the Crags last Sunday, coach Stewart Harris will be 
anxious to cut down on the worrying number of turnovers as they host a Falkirk side who shocked St 
Mirren at the Lagoon last weekend.

Ragged Rocks, meanwhile, have a new coach after Colin Haldane took over from former Scottish national women’s coach Shirley Birch, who quit following Rocks’ shock Scottish Cup exit to Tayside Musketeers.

Pentland Star, who have won only once in their first season in the women’s national league, beating Tayside before losing their next ten games, have lost key player Arielle de Munch, who has returned to France.

Star’s next game is not until the end of the month when they face their return game with the much-improved Musketeers, who will be gearing up for the Cup final.
