And, according to Edinburgh coach Terry McCormack, welterweight McMillan’s bout with London-based Irish scrapper Peter McDonagh is the toughest assignment of the three.

“I was in Alex Arthur’s corner last year in Glasgow when he outpointed McDonagh over eight rounds but the Irishman made Arthur fight all the way,” said McCormack. “He throws punches non-stop from all angles, is awkward and ruthless.

“McDonagh loves a brawl so McMillan will have to box him at distance and go for the body to slow McDonagh down.”

McCormack is upbeat about his unbeaten light-middleweight Thain’s chances of seeing off Scunthorpe’s Steve Spence over six rounds.

“Thain has a superb left jab and terrific speed. He is unbeaten in all five of his paid fights and I don’t expect that to change.’’

Meanwhile, former Leith Victoria Scottish heavyweight champion Simmons, who fights at cruiserweight as a pro, takes on Zimbabwean fighter Hastings Rasani. “I want to put on a show for my fans at ringside,’’ says Simmons.
