Boxing: Waiting game for Anderson on Grove date

Super middleweight boxer Kenny Anderson expects to find out early next month when his proposed fight with Englishman George Groves will be staged.

Recent reports have
suggested the bout is scheduled for September 14 at Wembley Arena, but Anderson, who lost to Groves in November 2010, says there are still a lot of measures to be taken before any date can be finalised. The pair were due to face one another back in March until Groves withdrew at the last minute citing an injury.

Anderson said: “They’re saying that date just now but that’s just speculation that they’re going to win the bid so that’s Frank Warren’s date that he has put out. There are still a lot of other promoters out there who can bid for it. If it is that date then great, the quicker the
better it is for me.

“I fought a couple of weeks ago so I will be ready. I’m not a boxer who lets myself get out of condition, I just don’t allow for that to happen. At least we are going to get a fight which I want and I’m sure he does just as much as well.”
