Khosrowpour upbeat as he prepares to represent Eastern Scottish amateur club

Clovenstone ace Pyam Khosrowpour will fight for an Eastern Scottish amateur club select against a Northern English select at Fife’s Pettycur Bay tonight safe in the knowledge that he has recently seen off an English opponent.

The newly crowned Scottish Senior Novices 81kg champion goes into battle in Kinghorn buoyed by having knocked out his southern rival in the Clash of the Capitals showdown in Princes Street Gardens back in September.

“I have been working hard in the Clovenstone gym on exercises to increase my punch power so that I can try to reproduce the big left hook that I used to against my London opponent in September. This bout in Fife will also help keep me sharp for the Eastern District championships [on November 28] where I’m really keen to win a title to add to my Novice’s crown.

Khosrowpour, a light-heavyweight, will also be keen to knock his opponent out after being underwhelmed by the nature of last week’s Scottish Novice’s success at Meadowbank.

He said: “I love knocking guys over to win so I was a bit disappointed to win my title last week only by both a disqualification and a points decision.’’

Khosrowpour is not the only Clovenstone boxer bidding for glory in Fife tonight, as middleweight Mark Brown, who also won a Scottish Novice’s title at Meadowbank, and Ryan McCutcheon, the Eastern District 57kg champion, will also box.

Meanwhile, Lochend coach Terry McCormack confirmed he has three boxers crossing the Forth to do battle. He said: “With the Eastern District championships coming up at the end of the month it’s important my guys keep sharp. Our light-welterweight, Lewis Benson, will face Holyrood’s Martin Warner, which is a tough fight for Lewis because Warner beat [former Scottish light-welterweight champion] Jason Easton back in May.

“Similarly, my lightweight, Steve Tiffney, will box Holyrood’s Phil Coppola. Switch hitter Coppola is always a tricky and tough guy to beat so my guys can’t be accused of taking easy touches in preparation for the District championships.’’

Also boxing against selected opponents at the Pettycur Bay boxing dinner event will be Craigmillar light-welterweight, Jason Easton and Craigmillar lightweight Tony James.
