Callum misses out on medal

Capital cyclist Callum Skinner and his English colleagues Pete Mitchell and Kian Emadi finished out of the medals in the team sprint at the European Under 23 Championships in Portugal yesterday.

The British trio posted a time of 44.865 seconds in qualifying third behind France and Germany. That secured a place in the third place ride-off against Poland but the Poles raised their game to take bronze.

Meanwhile, the Ingliston Criterium Series gets under way at the Royal Highland Showground tonight (first race 5.50pm).

This year’s competition, which is organised by Edinburgh Road Club and has sponsorship from Alpine Bikes, comprises a round on each of the four Thursdays in July followed by a finale at East Fortune in August.

The races cover all age groups from Under 10 to adult with a separate category for women, but exclude elite riders.
