Capitals forward Beattie wins call-up for Great Britain
The 21-year old is a product of the Caps’ academy, who, despite making his Elite League debut at the age of 17, missed out on GB honours at U-18 and U-20 level. But he has been called up to the senior squad for the friendly against the Norwegians, currently ranked 11th in the world.
Beattie said: “It came as a bit of a shock but I’m excited by the call-up and I’m hoping I can go down to Cardiff and make a good, positive impression, both with the coaching staff and the guys on the team. I see this as a chance to maybe secure a slot for the future and I’m really excited to get some international hockey experience under my belt.”
Beattie, earmarked to ice in tomorrow’s match, is part of a squad of over 40 players who will play Norway in two matches this week, the first game having been played in Nottingham last night.
