Carroll hails top quartet ahead of cup

EDINBURGH EAGLES head
coach Ash Carroll has paid
tribute to a club quartet who tomorrow help kick-start Scotland’s bid for a successful showing in the 2013 rugby league world cup, writes BILL LOTHIAN.

The Scots take on Ireland at Meggetland (2pm) in the Alitalia Trophy also featuring England’s second string, and Carroll is delighted for the experience being gained by Craig Borthwick, Callum Cockburn, Tom Murray and Dave Vernon as they prepare to line up alongside a string of Super League stars.

Carroll says: “It is great to see the guys get recognition and reward for their efforts. Being selected for the pro squad is an amazing achievement and a great opportunity.

Scotland rugby league’s commitment to the domestic game is excellent and the lessons these lads will learn will be passed back to the guys at Eagles.

“Callum, Craig and Dave have all had great seasons with us this year and their talents have been noted.

“With the World Cup in 2013 these guys will be pushing to prove themselves.”
