The Group B victory in Nagpur in India was not enough to see them progress to the next stage of the competition, but it was Scotland’s first positive result in 21 attempts at a world event.

Mazars Grange’s Mommsen said: “This win is huge – it’s been a long time coming. The boys are absolutely chuffed to get on the board and we can take many positives from this experience.”

Heriot’s spinner Mark Watt took 1-21 opening the bowling and eventual man of the match Matt Machan grabbed two wickets as Hong Kong made 127-7 from their 20 overs.

The rain then came and Scotland were set a revised target.

They made it to 78-2 from eight overs with Matt Cross top scoring with 22 in an eight wicket D/L win.
