Cricket: Bold McDonald has a ball as Fauldhouse win play-off tie

Ricky McDONALD was the hero as Fauldhouse won their SNCL play-off match with Dundee HSFP at the weekend.

The West Lothian men will now meet Prestwick this coming Saturday as their quest for a national league place continues.

At Forfar on Saturday, they managed to beat Dundee HSFP in a low-scoring affair. Batting first, Fauldhouse battled to make 134 all out in 45 overs, Zahid Ali top scoring with 38.

In reply, the Taysiders were skittled out for just 86, McDonald taking 4-11 and Daniel Law 2-13. Alan McDonald also bowled his ten overs for just nine runs. In the Baillie Gifford East Leagues, a few things were tied up with Teuchters winning East Seven and Murrayfield DAFS IV winning East Eight.

West Lothian were pipped to the SNCL Championship title when they lost to Dumfries at Nunholm yesterday.

The seven-wicket defeat means they finish second and should the leagues, unlikely as it may be, stay the same in 2012 they will be promoted to the top flight.

On Saturday, they had defeated Poloc to seemingly put themselves in pole position, but it was not to be. Also in the Championship, Penicuik’s terrible summer ended with defeat to Stenhousemuir.
