Cricket: Fauldhouse falter in final

Fauldhouse cricketers could not add the SCU Trophy to the Baillie Gifford East One title as they lost the final to Dumfries yesterday.

Batting first in Stirling, SNCL Championship outfit Dumfries made 243-7 and, despite their best efforts, the Fauldhouse run chase faltered at key moments as they were bowled out for 169. Nevertheless, it has still been a good season for the West Lothian men who now look set to have an SNCL promotion play-off match this weekend.

On Saturday, the Baillie Gifford East One season came to an end with Holy Cross snatching second place ahead of Marchmont. The two teams met at Arboretum with Marchmont only posting 131 all out batting first. Holy Cross coasted home, winning by nine wickets.

Last year’s top-flight champions Watsonians II saw their campaign end on a low note. They bowled out Murrayfield DAFS for just 110, teenagers Chris Cash and Peter Legget taking seven wickets between them. However, they were bundled out for just 78 as the DAFS bowlers found their form.

A stand of 39 for the last wicket helped Glenrothes defeat already relegated Boroughmuir by one wicket, meaning that Largo go down with ’Muir.
