He said: “Winter can often seem like a hibernation period for cricket clubs, but our various committees have been busily planning our 2016 season, which promises to be a hugely exciting one.

“Perhaps our most notable news is the signing of our new player coach, Craig Thyssen. A former South African first class player and current Level three coach, is a massive addition to the team. Part of the club’s plan to develop the cricketing infrastructure was to secure a club coach position, so we are delighted to bring Craig in as our first appointment. Craig will also be joined by a young amateur, Heynrych Nel.

“Penicuik CC has signed up to Cricket Scotland’s thriving clubs initiative, with the aim of embracing change and becoming more accessible and enterprising. In an increasingly competitive sporting market the committee will look at all aspects of the club through this programme, and as club secretary I would be delighted to hear and discuss any suggestions from members as to how we can offer more as a club to its membership.”
And Stewart revealed that Penicuik have their busiest events calendar to date.

He said: “We have already seen a hugely successful Race Night and the much awaited return of the ‘Penicuik Shafters’, who performed a fantastic 60/70/80s Tribute Night in early February. Thank you to all who supported both events.

“Finally on behalf of the committee I’d like to mention the continued support of our main sponsor Stuart and Stuart and a new partnership with Montali Energy Services. A big thank you to them both, their contributions go along way to running our day to day activities.”
