Loanhead Taekwondo Club recently attended the UKITF Scottish Taekwondo Championships held at Ravenscraig Sports Complex.

A team of nine students, aged between six and 16, representing the Loanhead Club and Midlothian, competed in three events – Patterns, Sparring and Special Techniques – and brought home a total of 15 medals as well as a new Scottish Champion.

Six-year-old Kyle Christie from Woodburn won his age group in sparring to become Scottish Open Champion 2012.

Instructors Connor, Brian, Nicola and Karla McLay along with parents and family, cheered the competitors as they competed against opponents from all over the UK and Ireland.

Results: Patterns – gold –Kyle Christie; silver – Cameron Bisset, Daniel Wheeler and Daryl Shepherd; bronze – Alex Smith and Aelisha McGlynn. Sparring – silver – Sean Christie, Alex Smith, Daniel Wheeler, Chloe Young and Daryl Shepherd; bronze – Kyle Christie, Cameron Bisset, Kori Cambell and Aelisha McGlynn.

Classes are held at St Margaret’s Church Hall, Loanhead, on Mondays from 6.15-7.15pm and Wednesdays from 7.30-8.30pm. For more details, visit the UKITF website – www.tkd.co.uk
