Dalkeith mum and charity fundraiser Ann Maxwell is to be a baton bearer at next week’s Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton relay.

Chosen in recognition for her contribution to the local community, Ann will carry the baton, which holds the Games’ opening message from the Queen, on Monday.

Having also been involved in her own “mum on the run for epilepsy” campaign which sets out to raise awareness of the condition with school children, Ann has certainly done the training for her leg of the baton relay.

She said: “I am extremely honoured to carry the baton, especially through my home town of Dalkeith.

“The Games will be an amazing event, not least because it breaks down barriers, bringing together people from all countries and all walks of life in one celebration.”

In total, 4,000 Scots will carry the baton 4,000km across Scotland before the opening ceremony on July 23.
