Dalkeith welcomed Hawick Linden RFC to King’s Park for the opening league game of the new season.
With no new faces, the team taking the field was virtually per last season, if missing a couple of injured regulars, the significant change being that Jim Slight had now taken over the coaching reins.
The home side began ‘up the hill’ on a clear sunny afternoon and were clearly keen to throw the ball around in an attempt to find attacking space.
After just five minutes, Swanson got the outside pass around 15m out from the Linden line, but appeared to be up against it, with four defenders in close proximity, but after a couple of deceptive side steps, the winger darted over in the corner for the opening try. Clugston missed the conversion from wide out, but Dalkeith were 5-0 up.
