Dalkeith take derby spoils

Ten-man Dalkeith Thistle produced a stunning finale to win this all Midlothian local derby clash at King’s Park last Saturday with a superb winning goal from Kevin Haynes in the 3rd minute of time added on!

This came just after battling Newtongrange had finally equalised in 89 minutes after dominating the second half against shorthanded Thistle who had opened the scoring just five minutes into that second half.

A goalless first half had seen honours even with favourites Star unable to unsettle a stuffy hard working Dalkeith defence.

Efforts by Lewis Turner and Paul Tansey had failed to trouble a superb home keeper Ross Combe as Thistle tried to recover from their 8-1 reverse the week before at Tayport due to “staffing problems”.

With no game at Arniston and Bonnyrigg the crowd was swelled by Bonnyrigg officials and players like Stevie Thomson ex Newtongrange and Kris Renton brother of Star keeper Kieron while Arniston officials also took in the county’s top match.
