Whitehill Welfare travelled to Ainslie Park last Saturday to face defending champions and current league leaders Spartans.
Welfare made a good start, and Alex Munro volleyed emphatically into the back of the net to give Whitehill a 15th minute lead. An equaliser soon came after 25 minutes, and it was 1-1 at half time.
Spartans started the second half on the front foot and took the lead when they were awarded a penalty. In the 60th minute, things got even worse for Whitehill as John Grant made it 3-1 to Spartans. And it was 4-1 shortly after, as Omar Kader got on the score sheet with a calm finish from the edge of the box. Andrew Sinclair should have pulled a goal back for Whitehill when he ran clean through on goal. However, he delayed his finish and the ball was cleared by the home defence.
The game was played out without major incident, and it was a disappointed Welfare side that traipsed off at the end. Next up for Whitehill is a home fixture against high-flying Civil Service Strollers this Saturday. Kick-off is at 2pm. Adults £5, concessions £3.
