Midlothian sports clubs are being encouraged to sign up for the 2012 East of Scotland Festival of Sport.
This year’s festival will take place from September 1 to 14 and is a great opportunity for local clubs to showcase the many great sporting and physical activity opportunities they offer to the community.
The festival is a joint initiative of councils in the east of Scotland – including Midlothian, West Lothian, East Lothian, Edinburgh, Scottish Borders and Fife – and is also supported by sportscotland.
Last year’s festival saw a wide range of Midlothian clubs take part, offering special events, coaching sessions, open days and other activities. Many local clubs increased membership as a direct result of their participation in the festival.
Councillor Owen Thompson, Midlothian Council’s deputy leader, said: “Last year’s festival was a great success and this year’s festival couldn’t come at a better time, as it takes place just after the Olympic Games. I’d encourage all Midlothian sports clubs to take part.”
It’s easy for sports clubs to get involved and there’s no charge or fee to do so.
Ideas include opening up a coaching session to the public and organising a club open day, a special event or mini-tournament.
