Fisher hooks place at Bowls Scotland Scottish Championships

The 39-year-old Colinton bowler lined up against Mark Hewitt of Whitehouse & Grange and quickly opened up an 11-5 lead.

Hewitt arrested his slide with a double to seven but Fisher kept his opponent on the hook with a run of 1, 1, 2 to 15 then, at 18-11, produced a 3, 2 finish to win 21-11 in 18 ends.

The local Slateford support were monitoring the progress of ‘The Ramsay Brothers’ in the Triples and they were suffering nervous tensions at 8-7 up but Ronnie, Andrew, and Gordon conjured up a magic 2, 3, (1), 3 that clinched a 16-8 win over Parkside’s Willie Watson, Robert Donaldson and Paul Veitch.

The Junior Singles saw Stephen Pringle of Carrick Knowe and Parkside challenger Steven Rennie call peels at 10-10 before Pringle made excellent headway to 18-11. Pringle then conceded 4, 1 to come under pressure at 18-16 but answered with a 2, 1 finish that clinched a 21-16 win in 22 ends.

Carrick Knowe went into the District finals triple–handed and celebrated a second triumph with their pair of Graham Pringle – father of Stephen – and James Hogg showing their class in a 34-2 thrashing of the luckless Paul Sinclair and Frank Gordon of Merchiston.

Carrick Knowe were also contesting the Fours and their rink of Andy Beith, Keith Elder, Kevin Tennant and Darren Hush raced into a 10-0 lead over Currie’s Allan Buchan, Willie Hunter, Andy McCormick and Paul Anderson. Currie enjoyed a hot spell of 3, 3, 2, 2, to peel at 10-10 then a win was still in their grasp at 15-14 down but Hush silenced their challenge with a powerful 1, 3, (2), 1 finish to win 20-16.
