Amateurs: Armadale Rose get stuck Inter their city opponents

In their previous three meetings this season, there had been little to separate the two sides but that wasn’t the case on this occasion.

Opportunities started to come in the game with half an hour gone and Inter might well have had the lead at the break. Alberto Valverde met a corner from the right at the near post but he sent the ball over the top from four yards.

Inter looked the more threatening of the two teams but it was Armadale who went ahead as Christopher Purvis whipped the ball into the top-right corner. Then, just a minute later, Armadale made it two as James Spence fired in from distance.

After the restart, Armadale picked up where they left off with Inter looking despondent. Stephen McLay hit a peach of a left-foot shot from the edge of Inter box that flew into the top-right corner for 3-0 before substitute Cameron Walker steered the ball in for No.4.

Armadale racked up the goals as Craig Spence got his name on the scoresheet with a fine finish before Walker added another to make it six.

• Balerno ease to victory

Balerno Athletic progressed to the second round of the McDonald Cup with a convincing 4-0 win over Craigroyston CYFC at King George V Park.

The hosts started in the ascendency and never looked back against their fellow Lothian West side. Early pressure forced Craigroyston deep and Balerno took full advantage to go ahead with 12 minutes on the clock. Finlay Blair won the ball on the right-hand side of midfield before bursting into the box and slamming the ball into the bottom-left corner.

Another Balerno goal was inevitable before half-time and it was David Warnock who bagged it as he got in behind the Craigie defence to make it 2-0. Craigie had a chance to regroup and compose themselves at the interval. Their overall performance improved but Balerno didn’t let up, making it 3-0 with 60 minutes gone. Steven Aitken was the man on the scoresheet as he found a pocket of space deep in enemy territory to curl the ball in.

Balerno were comfortable but they still had another goal in them, Craig Rennie following up Steve Newton’s shot to put the ball in the net from close range.

• Clermiston 7UP for the cup

Clermiston Star strolled into the Scottish Amateur Cup fourth round with a comfortable 7-1 win over Formartine United at Park Lane.

The Edinburgh side got off to a bad start as David Smith gave Formartine the lead after two minutes.

But Clermiston immediately responded with an equaliser as Sam Knight scored at the second time of asking.

From that point on, Clermiston never looked back and were 4-1 up at half-time. Gary Crighton volleyed in David Lewis’ free-kick before a bicycle kick from Ryan Wilson and a penalty from Lewis put Clermiston out of sight.

Into the second half and Scott Gibson picked up Craig Mackintosh’s well-weighted pass to send a delicate chip into the opposition goal for 5-1.

Clermiston weren’t finished there, though, as goals by Zane Nicholson and Gibson extended the winning margin.
