Arniston Rangers kick-started their season last week with two wins in just four days, catapulting them up to fourth place in the table.

On Saturday at Newbyres Park Arniston beat visiting Montrose Roselea 2-0 thanks to goals by Lumbert and Dale Pennycuik in a game with kick-off delayed by some 45 minutes due to traffic problems for travelling Montrose.

The previous Wednesday Lumbert Kataleza netted four stunning first-half goals in a nightmare for visitors Edinburgh United who trailed 5-0 at half-time and Arniston missed a penalty. Following a solitary second-half strike, the match finished 6-0.

It was “Lumbo” who himself created the opening goal in 11 minutes with a piece of magic play on the left flank setting Danny McFadden in space to score the opening strike and the first Arniston goal of the season. But in 21 minutes Arniston should have gone two up when awarded a penalty after a foul by Dean Clark on McFadden but Daryl Johnson’s resultant spot-kick was tipped round the post by United goalkeeper Jamie Swinburne .

Three minutes later, it was 2-0 as Lumbo nipped in between defender and ’keeper, seizing on a bad passback to round the ’keeper and score into an empty net. Just two minutes later, it was 3-0 as United failed to clear their lines and Lumbert again was the marksman, scoring superbly.

Lumbo completed his hat-trick in 40 minutes as United crumbled having already lost 5-0 the previous Saturday.

That first-half agony for United still wasn’t finished. In 43 minutes it was 5-0 to Arnie as again alert Lumbo found space in the penalty area to score his fourth and his side’s fifth with half-time still to come.

Triple Edinburgh substitutes started the second half but United’s agony continued around the hour when Darren Wood limped off with an injury and, having used all three subs, had to finish the last half-hour with ten men.

Arniston coasted home with missed chances by McFadden and Lumbo, but in 75 minutes Danny McFadden seized on a parried save by Swinburne to net the rebound and score Arniston’s sixth goal.

Arniston will again entertain Edinburgh United next month (5th ) in the first round of the East of Scotland Cup.
