The Jags came out on top in this feisty encounter at King’s Park on Saturday thanks to a superb winning goal by birthday boy David Morris.
After a quiet start, the game burst into life on 22 minutes with a goal by Violet’s Darren Cox. Goalkeeper Paterek was unable to hold a fierce shot by Urquhart and Cox was on hand to blast the ball into the roof of the net from a yard out.
A minute later it took a fine fingertip save by Paterek to deny the visitors a second goal. But at the other end Sean Lally should have levelled the scores after a pass by Darren Flynn on 32 minutes when his effort was deflected wide by the Violet keeper.
With half-time approaching Lally returned the favour to Flynn and this time the striker found the net with a delightful lob over the visiting ’keeper to square it at 1-1.
