The Penicuik favourite has agreed to sign for Rose on the expiry of his contract with The Cuikie.

And Horn admitted the 27-year-old midfielder is a player he has been keen on for some time.

He said: "Callum's someone we've had our eye on for a couple of seasons now.

"We enquired at the start of the season but it wasn't happening. But he's out contract in the summer and we're delighted to get him on board.

"He's been captain at Penicuik and a big player for them over the past few seasons and I'm sure he'll be a great signing for us.”

Connolly joined Penicuik from Whitehill Welfare in 2016 and was a key figure in The Cuikie’s memorable run to the third round of the Scottish Cup, captaining the sides in their ties with Stenhousemuir and Partick Thistle.

Horn said: “He's a winner and a leader and he brings something different in that he's got a physicality in the middle of the park and can go box to box and score goals.

"He can also sit in the middle of the park as well and defend and also play at the back so be brings a bit of flexibility for us.

"He's just something different from what we've got within our squad at the moment and I think he's a great addition for us."

Connolly is Rose’s first signing of the close season – and Horn says he’s not expecting too many more.

He admitted: “Most of our guys are on two-year contracts. There might be one or two additions but to be honest our squad's quite settled.”
