Brownlie returns to take the reins at Edinburgh United

It marks a return to the Paties Road club for Brownlie, who was Stephen Osbourne’s assistant before he moved to Arniston Rangers earlier in the season.

“We are hoping Neil will be able to stabilise things – that’s all we are really looking for at the moment,” said United secretary Brian Smith.

With just one win in 11 games, the Capital club are propping up the South Division table.

“It is going to take time to try and turn our fortunes around but, with the Christmas break coming up, it means Neil will get a chance to work on things in training,” added Smith. Campbell, who was appointed following Osbourne’s departure, stood down due to an “unworkable” relationship with the committee. “It’s not ideal that we have found ourselves appointing a new manager again, but Stephen only left because he got an opportunity to take over at Arniston,” said Smith.
