A crowd of around 500 saw honours evenly shared in Saturday’s Super League ‘Match of the Day’ at New Victoria Park.

League leaders Newtongrange were held to a draw in their ninth championship match of the season - one more played than Bonnyrigg Rose.

With high scoring Nitten chasing their 38th goal of the season they looked to score early on when Chris King took advantage of sloppy Rose defending to send what he thought was a goalward final touch but Ross Archibald popped up to clear off the line with keeper David Hay beaten. Somehow Rose survived as end to end spells saw both teams fully committed.

In 13 minutes Bonnyrigg controversially broke the deadlock when from their first corner on the right swung in by Conor Thomson, Steven Hislop headed home the opener. The goal stood despite huge protests from Star keeper Keiron Renton that a hand had been used in the goalscoring.
