Penicuik travelled to Beechwood Park for this East Super League match looking to continue their rich vein of form and consolidate their top of the Super league position.

However, it was Sauchie who created the first chance of the game when Shanks got past Greg Ross, and drove into the box, but his shot was comfortably saved by Penicuik keeper Bejaoui.

In the 14th minute, a second chance fell to the home side when a McCulloch cross into the box was headed wide of the target by Morgan. Two minutes later, following a free kick to Sauchie, Kelly turned quickly in the box, but his weak shot was easily gathered by Bejaoui.

At the other end, a great diagonal pass by Ross picked out Aaron Somerville on the corner of the penalty box. He curled in a shot that hit the bar and away for a goal kick.

It was the home side which took the lead in the 28th minute when a Shanks free kick was deflected by the Penicuik defensive wall past Bejaoui.

Sauchie were the more direct side when going forward and created two chances minutes later when Millar should have scored but Bejaoui blocked his effort. Then Kelly shot wide another chance .

But Penicuik gradually worked themselves back into the game and in the 40th minute equalised with a fine strike by Aaron Somerville squaring the match at half time at one apiece .

And it was Penicuik who took the lead in the 58th minute when Ryan McCallum slotted home from the penalty spot for the Athletic’s 30th goal of the season.

Two minutes later, the three points were settled when McCallum became provider, cutting the ball across the six yard box for Somerville to knock the ball home for his own second of the game and Penicuik’s third.

Afterwards, keeper Harkness watched on anxiously as a McCallum strike from the left side of the box flashed narrowly past the upright.

In the 73rd minute, a free kick to Sauchie saw Bejaoui punch clear.

The ball was immediately returned to the danger area where Duffin tried an overhead kick, but the ball was booted clear to safety by David White.

Immediately afterwards, Somerville dispossessed Shanks but instead of cuttingthe ball back, he went for goal and Harkness blocked his effort easily for a corner. Finally Sauchie’s Morgan received a straight red card, for comments made to referee Stewart.

Next up for top of the Super League Penicuik this coming Saturday is their away trip to North League’s Brechin Vics in the second round of the Scottish Junior Cup, one of four Midlothian clubs away on Scottish Cup duty this weekend .
