Dalkeith Tennis Club’s Men’s team got their title challenge back on track with two wins over Corstorphine in Division 5B of the Dunlop East of Scotland League.
They beat the Edinburgh side 11-2 at Dalkeith on Wednesday before following that up with an 18-0 thrashing at Belgrave Road on Monday that sent Dalkeith back to the top of the table and also consigned the home side to relegation.
Grahame Forbes and Gareth Stewart led the way, dropping just nine games in ten sets over the two ties, while Matty Smith and Alistair Fruznyski chipped in with three on Wednesday in their first outings for the top team. Dalkeith face third-place Mortonhall 2 on Friday in a rearranged fixture where they will resume 2-1 down, knowing that victory would secure promotion. Defeat, however, will set up a tense final match at home to Grange Dyvours 2 on Monday.
Division 9 champions Dalkeith 2 finished the season with a 100 per cent record after beating Kirkcaldy 3 10-6 on Wednesday. Dalkeith led 8-4 after two rounds before a set each from Nigel Gray and Frank O’Donnell, and Frank Nisbet and Michael Robson, clinched the win which also denied Kirkcaldy second spot and promotion.
The Boys 14 & Under side head to North Berwick on Sunday for their final match, hoping to build on last week’s win over Blackhall.
