The transport hub often uses different coloured lights on the 187ft-tall tower to show backing for particular causes or sporting events.

In the past it has been lit up in maroon or green to show support for Hearts and Hibs competing in national cup finals, while it is often bathed in blue lighting when the Scotland national rugby team is competing in the Six Nations or a World Cup.

The control tower will display its yellow glow from Friday February 26 until Sunday February 28, when the West Lothian side goes head-to-head with St Johnstone at the national stadium.

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport, said: “Watching your team get to the final of a major competition is always exciting and we know Livingston fans will be incredibly excited, and nervous, ahead of Sunday’s final.

“We know the team are flying at the moment so we hope showing our support to one of our local teams will see the safe arrival of the League Cup to Livingston.”

Livingston chief executive John Ward admitted he had made a comment on social media when the airport did similar for Hearts' appearance in December’s Scottish Cup final and was glad to see the Lions getting similar support from all at Turnhouse.

He added: “This is a brilliant gesture from all involved at Edinburgh Airport.

“I must also applaud them on being true to their word as I made a smart comment on Twitter when they lit the tower maroon for Hearts recent Scottish Cup Final match.

"They did respond and said if Livingston got to a cup final, they would do this for us too.

"I was sceptical that we would ever be in this position but it’s great that we are and brilliant that the airport are doing this in support, so a huge thanks to Gordon and the team.”
