City are unbeaten in the league this calendar year, and Jardine expects his charges to maintain their high standards to keep it going. “Without a doubt that’s the target,” he insisted. “The guys in that dressing-room are winners and have got a winning mentality. We want to keep our good habits and doing things the right way.

“I said before last week’s game, we’re not talking about the title, we’re not talking about play-offs – it’s winning. We’ve got six points between now and the end of the season and our target should just be six points, taking it one step at a time.”

Spartans have played the fewest games of every Lowland League side and welcome Gretna to Ainslie Park in the first of their four remaining league fixtures. Edinburgh University finish their season with a trip to Threave Rovers, hoping a win will eventually be enough for a top-six place. Preston Athletic face BSC Glasgow at East Kilbride’s K Park, hoping to move up to third bottom with a win if other results go their way.
