FORMER Hearts goalkeeper Neil Alexander has signed a one-year deal with Aberdeen.

Alexander, 38, who had performed a player-coach role for the Jambos, left Tynecastle last month after failing to agree a new contract.

He was the club’s No.1 as they followed up the Championship title success of 2014-15 by securing a third-place finish in the top flight last season.

Alexander is delighted to now be lining up for Derek McInnes’ side, telling RedTV: “Recently I’ve had a couple of good seasons under my belt and I’d like to think I have another couple of years left in me and I want to play.

“I’ve got the opportunity to come here and be involved in European football. I’m grateful to the manager for bringing me here and I am really looking forward to the European games and the start of the league campaign.”
