Easthouses Lily entertained Stoneyburn in this league fixture on Saturday, looking to pick up all three points to keep them at the top end of the South Division table.
The Lily kicked this game off and took the lead in the sixth minute when Gary Shearer played in Lewis Russell and his clever curled shot found the back of the net to give the Newbattle Complex side the best possible start.
The Lily increased their lead in the 17th minute, again good play down the left hand side by Shearer finding Ally Elliot who slotted the ball into the goal to give the home side a comfortable early two goal lead.
At this stage it was all Easthouses and they went further ahead in the 31st minute. This time Gary Shearer hitting the back of the net from 18 yards out after a fine pass from Gordon Wilson to go in at half time 3-0 to the good.
Stoneyburn kicked off the second half but didn’t really create any goal scoring opportunities or trouble Easthouses Lily’s keeper Craig Pennycuik at all.
Goal number four eventually came for the Lily in the 55th minute.
Again Shearer playing in Elliot and he got his second of the game tapping in from close range.
Easthouses continued to create good goal scoring chances but missed them as they tried in vain to add to their four goal tally.
But overall they ran out comfortable winners to go joint top of the league with Tranent.
This result continues Easthouses Lily’s incredible return to the Junior set-up.
After around half a century away in Seniors football, the club have so far won four of their first five matches in the bottom tier of East Region Junior football, the South Division.
This Saturday the league action continues for Easthouses, as they travel to Blackburn United in West Lothian.
Hopefully the Lily can continue their superb early season form which promises so much in this their first season in the Juniors for so long.
