Falkirk holds no fears for hungry Lions

LIVINGSTON head to Falkirk tomorrow with the chance to leapfrog Steven Pressley’s side and take second spot in the First Division, and striker Marc McNulty says the players are looking forward to the challenge of attempting to be the first team to take three points away from the Bairns’ home this season.

The young forward was on the scoresheet as Livi broke their 11-year hoodoo at Queen of the South last Saturday in a hard fought 2-0 victory in horrendous weather conditions, and McNulty insists Gary Bollan’s squad know it will be tough to repeat the feat tomorrow.

Falkirk have only once dropped points in five matches this season at the Falkirk Stadium – that being a 1-1 draw with top of the table Ross County – and on three separate occasions have secured home points with goals in the last five minutes.

He said: “I look forward to every game that I play, but obviously there’s a lot more at stake this week because if we win this week we go up to second, and all the boys are looking forward to it knowing we can maybe take second place.”

“Saturday’s going to be very tough; that’s us played everyone now and every game in this league’s tough. Especially after just going away to Queen of the South and picking up a victory there hopefully we can carry that into this week.”

The striker admits the Livi squad were not aware before kick-off last Saturday that it was over 11 years since a Lions team defeated Queens on their own patch, but the players were happy to hear they had managed to break that poor run.

“We didn’t know until after the game that we hadn’t won there for 11 years, and it’s nice to know we’ve went down there and done that. It’s a difficult place to go, but all the boys fought hard and I thought deserved the win.”

McNulty’s sixth-minute strike got the Lions off to a perfect start against Gus MacPherson’s men, as he skipped past two defenders before sending a low shot into the bottom corner. He hopes the goal – his second league effort of the campaign – will help push him on to more success as the season goes on.

He added: “Yeah, I was delighted to score, that’s what I aim to do in a game.

“I look to play well and obviously it’s important the team win, but it’s great being a striker and scoring goals, and hopefully that sets me up well for the rest of the season.”
