Five star performance from Lily

West Calder United 1, Easthouses Lily 5

(East South League)

Easthouses visited West Calder in this their last South League game of 2015 with a depleted squad as 50-year-old manager David McQueenie only had 12 players available so he had to put himself on the bench in case of an emergency.

Thankfully for him and the Lily lads he wasn’t called into action.

The Lily captain Gavin Tainsh won the toss and elected to go with the strong wind, but straight from kick off West Calder took the lead within 50 seconds to go 1-0 up.

Easthouses players were shaking and West Calder should’ve made it two in the fourth minute but a great save by keeper John Falconer seemed to have awakened the Lily into action and in the fifth minute they levelled the game from a fine move involving Steven Campbell and Gary Shearer with the latter’s cross being turned into the net by a fine finish from Steven.

The Lily then took the lead in the 11th minute from a Shearer throw in as the ball fell to Lewis Russell and he fired the ball into the back of the West Calder net from 25 yards out.

Then with only 13 minutes played the Lily got goal number three from a blockout by keeper Falconer which saw the ball land at the very talented Gary Shearer and his low shot from 20 yards out found the back of the hosts’ net.

At this stage it was all Easthouses as they were playing some good football in difficult conditions and incredibly they got goal number four which was the pick of the goals in the 33rd minute with the move of the game involving Gavin Tainsh passing to Steve Barrie who found Ally Elliott who in turn found Lewis Russell and he curled the ball into the top corner of the West Calder net from 29 yards out to make it 4-1 to the awesome Lily.

Then right on half time Elliot thought he had got goal number five for the Lily only to see his header crash off the crossbar.

The second half saw a late Lily goal number five from a John Hunter header in the 83rd minute to wrap up all three points and see the Lily finish 2015 on a five high win and a top performance by Paul McDermott
