There was an expectation that it was a move which would be revisited in the summer with Gordon out of contract.

With Hearts not making any moves in the transfer window while there is uncertainty surrounding the club’s situation and Premiership status, rivals St Mirren have stepped up their interest.

According to the Scottish Sun, Jim Goodwin has put forward a case for the 37-year-old.

The Buddies had made an offer to retain Czech goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky but he rejected the offer. Now focus has switched to the ex-Hearts and Sunderland goalkeeper.

Gordon is understood to be considering his options with an offer from Celtic to renew his deal which expired at the end of May.

He has played just six times for the Scottish champions since the start of 2019, losing his place to Scott Bain then playing understudy to Fraser Forster. If he signed a new deal it would likely be on reduced terms and could see him drop to third choice if the club bring Forster back to Parkhead.

The Tynecastle side may look to strengthen the goalkeeper position this summer, but if league reconstruction fails and the club are in the Championship a move for Gordon, who won the 2006 Scottish Cup, could be deemed unrealistic.

There is also reported interest from England for the player to consider.
