Former Hearts forward Dario Zanatta is looking for a new club after invoking a relegation release clause to leave Partick Thistle.

An agreement in Zanatta’s contract allowed him to walk away from Firhill as a free agent in the event of relegation from the Scottish Championship.

He has now taken up the option after Thistle were consigned to the drop into League One for next season.

They suffered a similar demotion to Hearts and Stranraer when the Scottish season was prematurely ended following the coronavirus outbreak.

Zanatta signed a two-year contract upon joining the Glasgow club last August from Hearts, but Partick confirmed his departure in a statement on their website.

“Partick Thistle can confirm that Dario Zanatta has chosen to invoke the relegation release clause in his contract and will leave the club with immediate effect,” it read.

“Dario joined the Jags last August and during his time at Firhill the Canadian attacker featured on 25 occasions, scoring three goals.

“The board of directors and management would like to thank Dario for his service to Partick Thistle Football Club during his short spell.”
