Former Hearts striker Gavin Reilly has signed for Carlisle United on an initial one-year deal.

The 27-year-old was out of contract at Bristol Rovers and spent a spell on loan at Cheltenham last season.

The Cumbrians hold an option to extend the deal, and manager Chris Beech told the club’s website: “Gavin was really keen to come to Brunton Park.

“He’s kept in regular contact during the summer and even committed to moving to the area.

“He’s been very successful north of the border, and I know he has no doubts at all that he can score goals in the EFL for Carlisle. I think this one is a great fit.”

Reilly scored four league goals for Hearts in season 2015-16 after signing from Queen of the South.

He struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at Tynecastle and was loaned out to Dunfermline Athletic the following season.

He left Hearts to sign for St Mirren in summer 2017 and helped the Paisley club win the Championship title, scoring 22 goals in all competitions.

His form won him a move to England with Bristol Rovers.
