Hearts striker Uche Ikpeazu spent last weekend feeding the homeless in London after contributing his own money to a local charity.

The Lolo Foundation is run by Lola Idris-Debayo, mother of the Cheltenham Town defender Joshua Debayo, and Ikpeazu drove seven hours to help them feed more than 350 people on the streets of Britain’s capital.

He has been training alone in lockdown since coronavirus stopped Scottish football in March. However, he took time out from his programme for a cause close to his heart.

He explained how his own friends and family have suffered from homelessness in the past, prompting him to make a yearly trip to help the Lolo Foundation.

The charity distributes different kinds of food, some of which is Nigerian due to Debayo’s heritage. It includes Jollof rice and chicken, chicken curry, porridge for vegans, pasta macaroni cheese, plus water, tea and coffee.

“We fed over 350 people. It was just a nice thing to do and it’s something I try to do every year,” Ikpeazu told the Evening News.

“I drove down from Scotland, which took me about seven hours. We contribute money towards feeding all those people. I know family and friends who have been homeless.

“Having a roof over your head and having food is the minimum that a human being should have. I thought it was something I should do because gratitude is a must.

“Lola is my best friend’s mum and she is a real inspiration. She does a lot for the homeless community in London and she is trying to branch out to other places as well.”
