Hearts to visit Whitehill Welfare for pre-season friendly
Whitehill Welfare are to meet Championship title-winners Hearts in a pre-season friendly at Ferguson Park.
That match will take place on Saturday, July 3, with Welfare optimistic that, by that time, supporters, currently denied access by Covid-19 restrictions, will be permitted to attend.
Club chairman Graeme Kay said: “We’re very hopeful of supporters being allowed in, and if that's the case, then we'll obviously put notice out about how people can get tickets nearer the time.
“Unless there's another wave of the virus, I’m fairly hopeful that we’ll get people in and it will be a good one to start off.”
The match will be an important part of both clubs’ preparations for their respective seasons, with Robbie Neilson’s visitors getting ready for a return to the top flight after this season’s Championship success.
Meanwhile, Welfare will be hoping to improve on a disappointing campaign last time out which saw them sit bottom of the East of Scotland League premier division with just one point from 10 games when the season was abandoned.
Whitehill are also hoping to arrange another pre-season friendly against Premiership opposition but that has yet to be confirmed.
Manager Andrew Kidd, preparing for his first full season in charge, has been working on the make-up of his squad, hoping to retain the nucleus of his current team.
One player who won’t be back is defender Kevin Keane, his departure having been confirmed by the club on social media.
