SPFL club becomes first to follow Hearts' lead with 50 per cent wage cut

Dumbarton have announced they are deferring half of all wages until the SPFL hiatus is at an end.

The League One side have followed in the footsteps of capital club Hearts but proposing a 50 per cent cut to all players, coaching and ground staff.

The third-tier club have agreed with their employees to postpone the payment of half of their wages until they have made it successfully through the football shutdown.

Hearts are still in talks with their players and PFA Scotland on whether the Tynecastle side’s own wage-cut proposal will be a deferral or not.

Clubs across Scotland are facing an uncertain future with little income expected to come in before the summer and wages still to be paid.

After consulting with players and staff, Dumbarton have announced that the change to all wages has now been implemented.

Chairman John Steele said: “The players and staff supporting us here is a great help and very much appreciated. I really do value their cooperation and it says a lot about them both as professionals and as people that they have been agreeable on this."
