Rangers boss Steven Gerrard said Hearts “deserved” their win in the Scottish Cup quarter-final at Tynecastle on Saturday evening.

Oliver Bozanic netted the only goal of the game in the second half as the Gorgie side advanced to the semi-final stage at Hampden Park, joining rivals Hibs in the draw.

It was the third time Rangers have failed to win in EH11 this season, following the 2-1 defeat in January and draw earlier in the campaign.

Gerrard called the defeat his “lowest point” since arriving at Ibrox.

“Today for 90 minutes, I didn’t recognise anything so I'm feeling really low, flat and disappointed,” he said.

“The referee and the officials were fine, I have absolutely no problems at all. Hearts deserved to win the game. Three times we’ve been here and they deserved the three results, they deserved to knock us out the competition today.

“I’m not sure we realised the importance of this game and the opportunity we had to go to Hampden.

“It seems when we’re the underdog, there’s not much pressure, not much expectation then when we’re fantastic, a superb team. But when there’s an expectation to go to a tricky place to win we’re having too many problems.”
