The Capital kids lead the SPFL Development League but came to grief in their cup quarter-final at Oriam.

A scrappy match in which Celtic paraded their £3 million signing from Russian club Krasnodar, the 19-year-old Ivory Coast midfielder Eboue Kouassi, was settled by a first-half strike from Josh Kerr, the Hoops defender blasting the ball past goalkeeper Patrick Martin from close range.

Hibs felt Conor Hazard was lucky to escape a red card after just ten minutes when the Celtic goalkeeper up-ended top scorer Oli Shaw after he’d beaten him to Scott Martin’s ball over the top but referee George Calder decided yellow would do.

There were few goal-scoring opportunities throughout the 90 minutes but Hazard was forced to pull off two impressive stops as Hibs piled on the pressure in the dying minutes as they sought an equaliser.

Hazard did well to beat away Fraser Murray’s angled drive and even better as the game moved into a fourth minute of added on time to push over Shaw’s rising shot.
