A return to league duty could be just the tonic for the Easter Road side and victory over Aberdeen would lift Jack Ross’ side into second in the Scottish Premiership table, at least until Motherwell and Celtic meet on Monday. Crucially, it would also effectively cancel out Aberdeen’s game-in-hand over Hibs, putting four points between the two teams.

That may be easier said than done, however.

Hibs have faced the Dons twice at Pittodrie on Friday nights with the hosts emerging victorious on both occasions. Gary Mackay-Steven’s 40th-minute strike was enough for Derek McInnes’ side on November 9 2018 while the same manager triumphed by the same scoreline on January 10 2014 thanks to Willo Flood’s 87th-minute winner.

The North East has not been a particularly happy hunting ground for the Capital club in recent years; their last victory coming in May 2012.

Team news: Jack Ross has virtually a full squad from which to choose his team, with Scott Allan and Lewis Stevenson the only confirmed absentees so far.

Jamie Murphy will be pushing for a return to the starting line-up having come on as a sub against Hearts last weekend while Drey Wright will also be hoping for involvement after returning from injury.

Josh Doig is expected to continue at left-back with Stevenson sidelined.
