Hibs boss Jack Ross believes striker Florian Kamberi will still be at Easter Road beyond the end of the transfer window despite interest from Polish club Lech Poznan.

As the Evening News revealed, the Ekstraklasa outfit had a bid for 24-year-old Kamberi rejected, but are believed to be considering upping their offer for the forward.

However, head coach Ross - who tried to lure the player to Sunderland when he first became manager of the Black Cats - insisted Kamberi is happy in Edinburgh, where he has 18 months of his current contract to run.

Ross accepted that the former Grasshoppers Zurich and Karlsruher player has a “career pathway” mapped out, one which he’d hope to help him pursue, but for the meantime he’ll be remaining at Hibs.

“I think they were in contact last week,” he said of Poznan’s interest, “but I don’t think there’s anything beyond that. There was no encouragement from the club. I spoke to Flo on Saturday, primarily about the game on Sunday and the role he was going to be involved in, but in the conversations I’ve had with him, he has no appetite for it.

“He is happy where he is at the moment. I think he has a pathway he’d like to pursue in his career and hopefully I can help him do that.

“But he will only do that if he has that consistency of performance like he produced in the main against Dundee United. I think he is a content player here.”

Ross conceded he’d have a problem if Hibs were to lose the former Swiss Under-21 internationalist in the coming days, but insisted: “There’s absolutely no appetite from me not to have him at the club.

“He is a player I have liked for a long time. I tried to take him to Sunderland when I first went there. He has been good, it’s just about getting that consistency of performance out of him because when he is good, he is very good.

“He brings qualities that aren’t easy to replace and obviously there is a bit of versatility in the role he can play. He played in a slightly different position at Tannadice and he was good in the game.

“So, for me, it would give me a problem if we lost him. I don’t think we will, that’s my honest view.”
