Former Hibs star eyes move back to Scottish Premiership

The 31-year-old, capped once by Scotland, spent a season on loan at Easter Road and featured 29 times under Neil Lennon in the 2016-17 promotion-winning campaign.

The midfielder played regularly under Lee Bowyer but when the manager moved to Birmingham in March he fell out of favour with his replacement at The Valley, Nigel Adkins.

Shinnie has not ruled out a move back to the SPFL where he played with Inverness, Dundee and first club, Rangers, in 2007.

“I wouldn’t rule out a move back to the Scottish Premiership or even staying in England. I would look at anything.

“I feel I still have a lot to offer. I am fit and ready to go and I feel I have been playing well. I am just looking for an exciting opportunity with an ambitious club,” he is quoted in the Daily Record.

Charlton narrowly missed out on a League One promotion play-off place which could have re-united Shinnie with brother Graeme is also in the skybet Championship with Derby County.

He added: “I had a good season at Charlton and was chipping in with a few assists and goals but then the new manager came in and I didn’t really get much game time. That happens in football.

"We ended up just missing out on the play-offs on goal difference so it was a bit of a disappointment.”
