The hosts had started strongly enough, with Chris Cadden blazing narrowly over and Christian Doidge getting his head to a Lewis Stevenson cross, but the visitors took the lead when Tony Watt’s pass sent Jordan Roberts through on goal.

Seconds after the restart a defensive horror show allowed Devante Cole to poke Motherwell further ahead. Jack Ross reacted by making a triple substitution, bringing on Alex Gogic, Kevin Nisbet, and Ryan Porteous for Stevenson, Jamie Murphy, and Darren McGregor but it was Doidge who had the best chance of the second half, firing straight at ‘Well goalkeeper Liam Kelly from close range and then heading the rebound wide.

Ross threw on Scott Allan but Motherwell held on as Hibs fell to another home defeat.
