Hibs goalkeeper Ofir Marciano has been named in Israel’s 23-man squad for their UEFA Nations League fixtures against Scotland and Slovakia next month.

Willi Ruttensteiner’s side are at Hampden on September 4 before hosting Slovakia on September 7 at the Diamond Stadium in Netanya.

Marciano is one of three goalkeepers named in the squad and could be set to win his 17th and 18th international caps.

Now in the final year of his contract with the Easter Road side, Marciano has played 120 times for the Capital club since arriving in 2016, initially on loan.

He has been in impressive form for Jack Ross’ side in the first five matches of the 2020/21 Scottish Premiership campaign, keeping three consecutive clean sheets and conceding just two, and is yet to be beaten from open play.

In September last year, after nearly two-and-a-half years without an international appearance, Marciano was recalled to the Israel starting line-up and played five of his country's ten Euro 2020 qualifying matches, displacing Ariel Harush as first-choice ‘keeper.

Harush was reinstated for the final qualifier against North Macedonia in November 2019 but despite being named in the squad, the 32-year-old is currently a free agent and hasn’t played a competitive game since March 8, increasing the likelihood that Marciano will start against Scotland and Slovakia next month.

Speaking after Hibs' goalless draw against Motherwell earlier this month, Marciano said: "We have got used to playing with no supporters. It's weird, but we are used to it.

"It will probably help us having no fans at Hampden, because we know how good the Scottish fans can be.

"But as soon as you go out and the game starts, you just forget there are no fans.”
