Hibs midfielder Josh Vela has cut short his time at Easter Road to join English League One outfit Shrewsbury Town.

The former Bolton Wanderers player arrived in Edinburgh on a three-year contract only last summer, one of a host of new signings by then head coach Paul Heckingbottom.

But the 26-year-old made just 14 appearances for Hibs, the last of which was the 5-2 defeat by Celtic in the Betfred Cup semi-final at Hampden at the beginning of November in what proved to be Heckingbottom's last game in charge.

Vela didn't make a single appearance under new boss Jack Ross and has now been released on a free transfer, signing a two-and-a-half year deal with The Shrews where he joins former Hibs striker Jason Cummings.
